Business&Law » Economic tools used in the assessment of horizontal mergers – workshop organized by the Polish Competition Law Association

  • On 21 October, 2011, the Polish Competition Law Association and the firm Microeconomix organize the workshop that touches upon economic tools and horizontal mergers, which will be held 16.30 (registration from 16.00) in Warsaw, Salans office, at Rondo ONZ 1 (XXX floor).
  • The speaker will be Ms. Martha Stryszowska, Microeconomix, a senior economist who specializes in economic analysis in competition law matters. Prior to joining Microeconomix, she worked at an American consulting firm Bates White, Washington, and previously defended her doctorate at the Faculty of Economics, University of Tilburg, the Netherlands.
  • The workshops will be devoted to discussing economic tools used by the European Commission in the assessment of horizontal mergers. The issues to be raised will be related to the relevant markets (SSNIP test, elasticity of demand, the correlation of prices, flows of customers, etc.) and the risk assessment of an unilateral restriction. There will be explained why the market shares of the merging firms are not the best measure of the impact of the merger on the level of competition in the market and what other methods in this area are available to the European Commission.
  • Admission to this meeting is open only to members of the Polish Competition Law Association.
